The RainSong (For Aurora) was written about the 2006 Dam breach and consequent flood and disaster on Kauai that ended the lives my best friends Bruce and Cyndee Fehring's daughter Aurora, her husband Allen and their little son Rowan as well as expectant bride and groom Christina McNeese and Daniel Arroyo, Wayne Rotstein and Tim Noonan.
lyrics
RainSong (for Aurora)
Mr. can you hear the mothers sigh,
her crying on the wind?
Mr. don’t you feel her anquished heart,
and prayers that never end?
Lord can you feel the fathers pain,
that pours down with the rain?
Why’d you send the whole damn sky
like a broken water main?
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
Thru the night the rain came down,
after days without end.
After 5 am the phone rang,
the voice of a friend.
You better get on over here,
you better come right now.
A terrible noise just woke us up ,
a loud and frightening sound
The damn had breeched and the water came,
like a demon bearing down.
Father searched for a sign as the sun came up,
that his kids got to higher ground.
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
As they searched in the light of day,
the breaking of the dawn
All the tree’s and the houses and the cars swept away,
everyone was gone.
Their sweet young daughter, and her baby,
her husband and closest friend.
Another young man and his pregnant girl,
wedding planned next weekend.
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
How can you heal these broken hearts,
how can you stop the tears?
Wrap a lonely child in a warm blanket
and take away it’s fear.
Life gives a bit and it takes away,
we never know when or why.
But love lies just around the bend,
it cannot be denied.
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
Rain, Rain, rain comin down, rain, rain, comin down
